2019 Dixie Softball Scholarship Recipients

2019 DIXIE SOFTBALL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS



Listed below are the 10 official recipients of the 2019 Dixie Softball Scholarships: 


The official winner and recipient of the Frank L. Baxter Memorial Scholarship is KALEIGH LAUREN CAULDER of Dillon, SC.  She played in the Dillon Dixie Softball League. Kaleigh is a senior at Latta High School with a weighted GPA of 4.0 on a 4-point scale and is ranked 3rd in her class of 111 seniors.  She is a member of the yearbook staff, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Interact Club as well as editor of student newspaper.   Kaleigh is also the Varsity Cheer Captain, Volleyball Captain and a member of the varsity softball team. She has done volunteer work in her community at the local hospital, the Dillon County Chamber of Commerce and the Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program.  Kaleigh plans to attend the University of South Carolina to major in Middle Level Education with a specialty in Mathematics and Science.


The official winner and recipient of the Billy Adkins Memorial Scholarship is TRINITY MIKALE WALKER of South Hill, VA.  She participated in the South Hill Dixie Softball League. Trinity is a senior at Park View High School and currently ranks 49th in her class of 187 high school senior students maintaining a weighted GPA of 3.84 on a 4-point scale.  She is a member of the varsity softball team as well as the Girl Scouts doing lots of volunteer work in her community.  Trinity is currently taking classes to become an Emergency Medical Technician. She plans to attend college in the fall with plans to become a veterinarian.

 

The official winner and recipient of the R. T. Adams Memorial Scholarship is ZOEY ASPEN ALEXANDER of Florence, AL.  She played for the Central Dixie Softball League. Zoey is a senior at Central High School maintaining a cumulative 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale which ranks 46th in her class of 94.  She has been very active in high school athletically as a member of the varsity softball and volleyball teams.  Zoey is a member of Key Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Christian Leaders, Peers for Life and National Honor Society.  She has done lots of volunteer work in her community including working with the Special Olympics for the last five years. Working part-time as a cashier at Kohl’s department store has kept her very busy.  Zoey will be attending college to become an elementary teacher and coach.


The official winner and recipient of the Tim Neely Memorial Scholarship is MADISON NICOLE STAGGS of Collinwood, TN.  She participated in the Collinwood Dixie Softball League. Madison is a senior at Collinwood High School and has maintained a 3.59 grade point average on a 4-point scale ranking her 22nd in her class of 74 students.  She is a member of the varsity softball team at Collinwood High School.  Madison is a member of Leaders in Action, BETA Club and HOSA – Future Health Professionals.  She works part-time babysitting and painting houses. Madison plans to attend Cleveland State Community College for two years followed by two years at the University of Tennessee Martin to obtain a degree in Physical Therapy.

The official winner and recipient of the Aubrey Tapley Memorial Scholarship is KRISTEN SHELL NICHOLS of Wewahitchka, FL.  She participated in the Wewahitchka Dixie Softball League. Kristen is a senior at Wewahitchka High School maintaining a weighted 3.11 grade point average on 4-point scale which ranks 26th in her senior class of 62.  She is a member of the varsity softball and cross-country teams.  Kristen works part-time in the summer helping her mother clean beach house rentals.  She plans to attend Gulf Coast State College to obtain her associate degree and then transfer to Florida State University to obtain a degree as a Registered Dietician.


The official winner and recipient of the George D. Matthews Sr. Memorial Scholarship is CAMDEN GRACE MORRIS of Collinwood, TN.  She played in the Collinwood Dixie Softball League. Camden is a senior at Collinwood High School and maintains a 3.64 GPA on a 4-point scale which ranks 24th in her class of 74 seniors.  She has been member of the varsity soccer and cheer teams in high school and volunteered for Special Olympics as well as coaching a youth soccer team.  Camden is also actively involved in Beta Club, Junior Civitan Club, Leaders in Action Club, HOSA – Future Health Professionals Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Spanish Club.  She has worked at a local radio station and plans to pursue a degree in Broadcast Journalism.


The official winner and recipient of the Helen Louise Jordan Memorial Scholarship is MAKENNA KAY MORGAN of Dike, TX.  She played with the Hopkins County Dixie Softball League. MaKenna is a senior at Sulphur Bluff School with a 3.73 cumulative GPA on a 4-point scale ranking her 13th in her class of 25 seniors.  She is a member of Future Farmers of America, BETA Club and FCCLA as well as playing varsity softball, volleyball and track.  MaKenna has signed to play softball at Bryant & Stratton College in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.


The official winner and recipient of the Charles W. “Buddy” Wade Memorial Scholarship is MEGAN CARLYN LUDLAM of Abbeville, AL.  She played in the Abbeville Dixie Softball League. Megan is a senior at Abbeville High School ranking 5th in her class of 61 students with a 3.77 grade point average on a 4-point scale.  She is a starter on her varsity softball and volleyball team as well as being a member of the varsity cheer team.  Megan is a member of the Senior Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Government Club and HOSA – Future Health Professionals Club.  She plans to major in Criminal Justice and then attend law school. Megan is currently trying to decide whether to attend Auburn University or the University of Alabama.


The official winner and recipient of the Ann Bradford Memorial Scholarship is SHELBIE RAE ANDERS of Negreet, LA.  She participated in the Sabine Dixie Softball League. Shelbie is a senior at Negreet High School and has maintained a cumulative 3.21 grade point average on a 4-point scale ranking her 18th in her class of 36 seniors.  Shelbie is a member of the Negreet High varsity softball and basketball teams as well as being a member of the Sabine Parish 4-H Shooting Sports team competing in archery and shotgun competitions.  She is also actively involved in her community in the local Dixie Softball program as a coach and umpire as well as volunteering with the Biddy Ball (youth basketball) Program. She plans to attend Angelina College to obtain her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.


The official winner and recipient of the Carlton McWhorter Memorial Scholarship is MORGAN ELIZABETH STANLEY of South Hill, VA.  She played for the South Hill Dixie Softball League. Morgan is a senior at Kenston Forest High School maintaining a cumulative 3.62 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in her class of 31 seniors.  Although she is very active in volunteer work in her community working with autistic children and serving as child advocate, Morgan works full-time to pay her own expenses. She is a member of National Honor Society, National Society of High School Scholars, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Southside Virginia Community College, Rotary Interact Club, Try-Hi-Y Club and the Student Government Association.  Morgan attended Girl’s State as well as Princeton University’s Junior Statesmen Program on Leadership and Politics. She plans to major in Political Science and Public Administration in order to advocate for special needs children.
